Changing the order of the syllables of a word to create a new one is a form of Spanish slang in some countries. In past articles, we have featured a list of 25 lunfardo inverse words from Argentina and also 6 examples of reverse words from Colombia. Going through the book Quick Guide to Peruvian Spanish I realized that Peru also has some good examples of reverse Spanish slang words.
10 Reverse Peru Spanish Slang Words
1. choborra
Drunk, it comes from changing the syllable order of “borracho”(cho-bo-rra)
Example: Teresa me contó que ayer su esposo llegó tarde a la casa y choborra.
2. dorima
Sexual partner (man) or husband, it comes from changing the syllable order of “marido” (do-ri-ma)
Example: Ojalá tu dorima no se moleste porque llegaste tarde.
3. fercho
Chauffeur, it comes from changing the syllable order of “chofer” (fer-cho)
Example: Dile al fercho que traiga el carro, necesito salir.
4. grone
Black person, it comes from changing the syllable order of “negro” (gro-ne)
Example: Los grones de Chincha tocan muy bien el cajón.
5. jonca
A box of beers, with 12 large bottles in a box, it comes from changing the syllable order of “cajón” (jon-ca)
Example: Carlos va a celebrar su aniversario a lo grande. Ha comprado 20 joncas.
6. mica
This one does not use all the syllables, but is still a good example. It means shirt, and comes from “camisa” (mi-ca)
Example: No puedo ir con esta mica a la reunión, está sucia.
7. mionca
Big truck, it comes from changing the syllable order or “camión” (mion-ca)
Example: Para llevar toda esa mercadería, tengo que alquilar un mionca.
8. ñoba
Bathroom or restroom, it comes from changing the syllable order of “baño” (ño-ba)
Example: Mozo, ¿dónde está el ñoba? -Al fondo a la derecha.
9. ponja
A person of Japanese origin, it comes from changing the syllable order of “Japón” (pon-ja)
Example: El dueño de esta empresa es ponja.
10. yapla
Beach, coast, it comes from changing the syllable order of “playa” (ya-pla)
Example: Si sale sol, mañana nos vamos todos a la yapla.
