There are 54 million Hispanics in the United States, of whom 24 percent identify as Afro-Latino. Afro-Latino is a person with Latin heritage who is also of African descent. Afro-Latinos have different hair textures, accents, and skin complexions and many people are misinformed about what an Afro-Latino looks like, how they should act, and where they come from.
These activities help Spanish students explore and understand the diversity that exists among Afro-Latinos.
Having a Spanish class activity guide allows you to better educate your students about the history and culture of Afro-Latinos. Additionally, it can give students of Latino and Afro-Latino backgrounds an understanding and appreciation of their heritage, as well as promote inclusiveness in the classroom.
Promoting diversity and accepting different cultures should be a top objective for teachers, and these activities can be a great tool for you to do so.
Our Afro-Latinos Class Guide will help middle and high school Spanish teachers discover the lessons, activities, and materials that they can use in class during the month of February to celebrate Black History Month.
