When people ask me how they can learn to speak Spanish, I often here the excuse that they don’t have any money to get started. The reality is there are a whole ton of free resources online for you to learn Spanish. However, there’s also another way. To learn to speak Spanish you can earn to speak Spanish.
That’s right, earn a little extra money and put it aside as your Spanish learning slush fund, your little piggy bank to get you on a new path to Spanish fluency.
Here are a few different ideas of how you can make a little extra money. Don’t forget…earn to speak Spanish:
Earn to Speak Spanish So You Learn to Speak Spanish
• Tutoring:
Pick up a few hours a week tutoring someone in your area of expertise. Just two hours of tutoring may result in enough money for a private lesson or two with a Spanish language teacher on a website like Italki.
• Yard work or handyman:
Just a couple hours over the weekend doing a little yard work or helping fix up a neighbor’s house will allow you to purchase a Spanish podcast, or a new book to help you learn
• Create a Book:
If you are an expert in some area, write an e-book and publish it. Even if you don’t aggressively promote the book, you will make enough money for a little Spanish learning. Now, imagine if you do that with 5, 10 or 100 books. You’ll be paying for a trip to the south coast of Spain for language classes out of your book earnings. Check out the website Smashwords to learn more about publishing an e-book.
• Sell used items:
Take a look around your house to see what you no longer use but still has value for someone. Get rid of it, sell it on E-bay, Craigslist or even the old-fashioned garage sale. This could easily make you $50-$100 towards your learning Spanish fund.
• Buy to Sell:
Related to the previous point, head out to garage sales, or pick through E-bay and Craigslist to see what is a bargain, that you know you can resell for a profit. I have a friend who buys model airplanes, holds them for 6 months and then resells them at the same place where he buys them. He makes a nice profit doing this. Of course, he likes model planes, it’s a hobby for him, but a hobby that makes you money can be a good thing.
• Online Freelance:
Take a look at the online freelance opportunities available. People are looking for all kinds of strange stuff, they’re willing to pay for. Some opportunities are legitimate, such as writing, programming, graphic design or translating available on websites like Elance. Other, goofier, things are out there on websites like Fiverr. Either option will build up your Earn to Speak Spanish rainy-day fund.
