What is the Best English to Spanish Translation for EMBARRASSING?

What is the Best English to Spanish Translation for embarrassing? Check this out. You may know a little about false friends, words that look and/or sound like a word in English but actually mean something totally different. Embarazada is one of those words.

Novice speakers often make mistakes when speaking and then quickly try to explain the embarrassment they feel by saying “Estoy embarazada/o.” This really will only add to their embarrassment, of course, because it means “I am pregnant.”

The correct way to say “I am embarrassed” in Spanish is “tengo vergüenza” which literally means, “I have embarrassment/shame”. You can also say “que vergüenza” which means “how embarrassing.”

Another option is to use the word avergonzado/a, as in the sentence Estoy tan avergonzado de lo que hice ayer.

So, next time you make an embarrassing mistake in Spanish, make sure you don’t make it worse by adding a seemingly random comment about being pregnant!
